Refund Policy

Last Updated: 1st September 2026

At Australian Publishing Press, we are committed to providing professional publishing, editing, design, illustration, formatting, printing and related services. Because many of our services involve customised work created specifically for each client, our refund policy depends on the nature and stage of the service.

By purchasing our services, you acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined below.

1. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this Refund Policy is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any rights or remedies you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) or any other applicable law.

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with a service, you may be entitled to cancel the service contract and receive a refund for the unused portion of the service, or compensation for its reduced value.

You may also be entitled to have a problem with a service rectified within a reasonable time where the failure is not a major failure.

2. Change-of-Mind Refunds

Unless otherwise required by Australian Consumer Law, Australian Publishing Press does not generally provide refunds solely because a customer:

  • Changes their mind after purchasing a service;
  • No longer wishes to proceed with their book or publishing project;
  • Finds another provider;
  • Decides not to publish or release their book;
  • Delays or abandons their project;
  • Fails to provide information, materials, approvals or feedback required to complete the project; or
  • Is dissatisfied with their own change in circumstances after purchasing the service.

Where work has already commenced, fees may be retained to cover work already completed and costs already incurred.

3. Cancellation Before Work Commences

If you request cancellation before any substantive work has commenced, Australian Publishing Press may, at its discretion, provide a refund of eligible amounts paid, less any non-refundable third-party costs or administrative expenses that have already been incurred.

Where a deposit or initial payment is specifically identified as non-refundable at the time of purchase, that amount may be retained to cover project administration, scheduling and preparation, subject always to your rights under the ACL.

4. Cancellation After Work Has Commenced

Once work has commenced, refunds are generally limited to the unused portion of services, where a refund is otherwise applicable.

Amounts relating to work already completed may not be refundable. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Manuscript editing or proofreading already performed;
  • Book cover design or revisions already completed;
  • Interior book design and formatting;
  • Illustration work;
  • Typesetting;
  • Publishing preparation;
  • ISBN or registration-related services;
  • File preparation;
  • Author consultation or project management;
  • Printing or production costs;
  • Third-party platform, supplier or distribution costs; and
  • Other customised services or expenses incurred specifically for the project.

5. Customised and Digital Services

Many Australian Publishing Press services are customised specifically for an individual author or publishing project.

Once a customised service has been substantially completed, delivered or approved by the client, the service may not be eligible for a refund simply because the client subsequently changes their mind.

Where digital files, designs, manuscripts, illustrations, formatted books or other completed materials have been supplied to the client, the client remains responsible for any fees associated with work completed before cancellation.

6. Client Delays and Failure to Provide Information

Projects may require the client to provide manuscripts, images, author information, approvals, revisions or other materials.

If a project is delayed because the client does not provide the required information or approval within a reasonable period, Australian Publishing Press may pause the project or reschedule work.

Such delays do not automatically create an entitlement to a refund.

If a project is abandoned because the client fails to respond or provide required materials, any refund will be assessed based on the amount of work completed and costs incurred at the time the project is closed.

7. Design, Editing and Revision Services

Where a client purchases editing, design, illustration, formatting or similar creative services, reasonable revisions may be provided where included in the agreed service package.

A request for additional work outside the agreed scope may incur additional charges.

A client is not generally entitled to a refund simply because they do not prefer a particular creative direction, provided the service has been supplied substantially in accordance with the agreed brief and applicable consumer guarantees.

8. Printing and Physical Products

Printed books and other physical products are generally produced according to the specifications approved by the client.

Where a product is defective, materially damaged, materially different from the agreed specifications, or otherwise fails to meet applicable consumer guarantees, Australian Publishing Press will assess the issue and provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law.

Where a problem is caused by incorrect information, files or specifications supplied or approved by the client, Australian Publishing Press may not be responsible for the resulting costs, subject to applicable consumer rights.

9. Third-Party Costs

Certain publishing services may involve third-party suppliers, printers, distributors, platforms, registration services or other external providers.

Where Australian Publishing Press has already paid or committed funds to a third party on the client's behalf, those costs may be non-refundable where the third party does not provide a refund.

This does not limit any rights the client may have under the Australian Consumer Law.

10. Refunds for Service Failures

If Australian Publishing Press fails to provide services in accordance with applicable consumer guarantees, we will first seek to rectify the issue within a reasonable time where appropriate.

Depending on the circumstances and the seriousness of the failure, the available remedy may include:

  • Correcting or re-performing the affected service;
  • Cancelling the affected service;
  • Providing a partial refund for the affected or unused portion of the service;
  • Providing a full refund where legally required; or
  • Another remedy required under applicable law.

11. Refund Assessment

All refund requests will be reviewed individually.

When assessing a refund request, we may consider:

  • The services purchased;
  • The stage of the project;
  • Work already completed;
  • Materials already delivered;
  • Third-party costs already incurred;
  • Whether the project was customised;
  • The reason for cancellation;
  • Whether the issue can reasonably be rectified; and
  • Any rights or remedies available under applicable law.

12. How to Request a Refund

Refund requests should be submitted in writing and include:

  • Customer's full name;
  • Order or project reference, if available;
  • Date of purchase;
  • Services purchased;
  • Reason for the refund request; and
  • Any supporting information or documentation.

Requests should be sent to the Australian Publishing Press customer service team through the contact details provided on our website.

We may request additional information before assessing a refund request.

13. Processing Approved Refunds

Where a refund is approved, it will generally be returned using the original payment method where reasonably practicable.

Processing times may vary depending on the payment provider or financial institution.

Where only part of a service is refundable, the refund will be calculated based on the applicable unused or undelivered portion of the service and any other relevant circumstances.

14. No Waiver of Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any rights, guarantees, remedies or protections that cannot legally be excluded under Australian law.

Where there is any inconsistency between this policy and a mandatory requirement of applicable law, the mandatory legal requirement will prevail.

15. Contact Us

If you have a concern regarding a service, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible so that we can understand the issue and work toward an appropriate resolution.
